I thought this lecture was very interesting and very enlightening. I especially liked how Ms. Getty discussed the great amount of jobs that are available in art-related fields, even those that are much less traditional than what you might first think of when you consider careers in the arts. It was obvious how passionate Ms. Getty is about her work with African American art, and it made the lecture very captivating. I also enjoyed how she organized her lecture in chronological order. With a form of art like this that has such important roots in history, I think that the background she gave was very beneficial to the full understanding of the exhibit and the significance behind it. I also appreciated how Ms. Getty delved into some of the history of the VMFA and their acquisition of different exhibits of African American art. It is interesting to see how the galleries were organized and decorated in a way that would honor the non-Western cultures and traditions of the exhibit. Overall, I thought that this lecture was very interesting and I especially liked hearing a little bit about thow the museum runs important cultural exhibits such as this one.
