Amy Diener was born in New York on December 9, 1973. She currently lives in Bangkok, Thailand. She has had three major solo exhibitions in different locations in Bangkok and several group exhibitions in and around the area. She has received numerous awards for her work, the most significant being the Art Connects Women Award, Miss Universe with "Zen", and TDAF 2022 Artist. Diener now works as an art teacher, facilitating a "choice-based art classroom interpreted from the Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB) approach."

Diener spent many years traveling around the world, and the colors of the surroundings she experienced now influence her work. She also draws from the patterns of nature and uses her art as an outlet for "embracing the light of positivity" and encouraging others to do the same.

I found it really interesting to hear more about Diener's inspiration, which comes mostly from her travels. In this interview, she talks about drawing from the most mindful and colorful landscapes that she experienced. Her goal with these paintings is to provide a therapeutic experience for the viewer that encourages them to pause and take a breath.

I was especially drawn to the work of Amy Diener because of the similarities between her work and mine. When I first began the process of creating my circle paintings, I remember looking at her work a lot. The very first piece I made was especially similar to some of Diener's because of the spiral pattern and detail in the circles. As my work evolved and its size grew, I have never gotten the chance to go back and make another piece with as many details as Diener incorporates in her work. However, I still see similarities between our work from where I am now, and I especially appreciate the optical illusions her pieces create. As I have moved away from the spiral patterns I worked on for a long time, I am now more drawn to Diener's abstract work such as the pieces shown below. Seeing these makes me wish I had more time to experiment with her tactics of detail and layering. I also really appreciate Diener's attention to color and incorporation of the colors of things she has experienced in her travels. I started this journey using colors inspired by scenes I have experienced, so it is interesting to see how this motif presents itself in her work. Additionally, I love the incorporation of texture into her work. This is something that I have experimented with, but it never really turned out the way I envisioned.
