One job that many people don't consider when they think about careers in the arts is architecture, more specifically landscape architecture. An advanced knowledge of composition, color, texture, and many other artistic features are needed to be a proficient landscape architect. Landscape architects design and oversee the building of parks, gardens, college campuses, and many other outdoor spaces used in both public and private settings. The main goal of landscape architecture is to create spaces that are both attractive and functional for the client's needs. Landscape architects typically need a bachelor's or master's degree in landscape architecture. The course requires advanced art classes, and many architects even minor in an art-related field. Georgetown, Virginia Tech, and UVA all have very good landscape architecture programs. Some of the best landscape architecture programs can be taken at schools like Harvard, Cornell, and University of Pennsylvania.

You should talk to Mr. Bortz. He was a landscape architect professionally before switching to IT.
